LSU students protest, marching on campus and demanding change

LSU students protested for the explusion of an LSU student athlete and the restoration of campus cultural centers on Friday. Students from LSU have protested against the university's handling of issues such as the expulsion of football player Damian Shanklin and the closure of cultural centers and expansion of LSU’s Civil Rights and Title IX. The protest was led by student organizations such as Students for a Democratic Society, Feminists in Action, Tigers Against Sexual Assault and Tiger Prison Project. They accused the university of ignoring the needs of students and failing them consistently. The cultural centers were closed over the summer, with the LGBTQ+ and Intercultural centers completely shut down and most staff cut. The African American and Women’’s cultural centers remain open, but most staff were cut and the centers are now operated by LSU‘s Student Affairs Office. The university has not commented on the students’ efforts for these changes, but students plan to voice their concerns through the Student Union.
