Stay the course or change? Rematch set for Baton Rouge school board seat.
In 2022, Shashonnie Steward led a field of three in the District 4 school board race and won in a runoff. Tebbe Jackson failed to make the runoff, earning 25% of the vote. Jackson is trying again in a Nov. 3 rematch. Shashonnie Steward is running for her seat on the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board, in a rematch against veteran teacher Tebbe Jackson. Steward, who has served as the board’s president for the past two years, is running on a “stay the course” platform, highlighting recent accomplishments such as a large employee pay raise approved in June and a $42 million bond used to improve high schools. Jackson, who spent 10 years in public schools, disagrees with Steward's agenda, stating it aligns with that of district superintendent LaMont Cole. Outside education reform groups are backing Steward and spending heavily on her behalf. Unlike four years ago, there will be no District 4 runoff as only two candidates are on the ballot.
