Two injured, flight diverted for Southwest flight out of New Orleans
A person onboard a flight from New Orleans to Orlando was injured in a Southwest Airlines flight after severe turbulence. Southwest Airlines flight 4273 left New Orleans on April 3, 2024 for Orlanda, Fl. due to severe turbulence, the captain declared an emergency and landed in Tampa. One of the injured passengers was a woman from Baton Rouge, the other was a flight attendant. The injuries to the two people included a broken hip and broken bone. Both passengers have undergone surgery. The plane was delayed four and a half hours behind schedule.

BATON ROUGE — Two people were injured after an early morning Southwest Airlines flight out of New Orleans.
Southwest flight 4273 left New Orleans on April 3, 2024 for Orlanda, Fl. around 6:30 a.m. But due to severe turbulence, the captain declared an emergency and landed in Tampa.
Southwest Airlines tells UWK that “the captain declared an emergency to receive an expedited approach to the airport, and also requested that paramedics be available when the aircraft arrived to assess any potential injury.”
One of the injured was a woman from Baton Rouge while the other was a flight attendant. Both people were transported to a Tampa Bay area medical facility.
The injuries for the two people included a broken hip and broken bone and both people have undergone surgery.
Southwest said weather caused the severe turbulence but they did inspect the plane as well.
“Our mechanics reviewed the aircraft and we worked with customers whose travel was impacted by an arrival in Orlando approximately four-and-a-half hours behind schedule. With our apologies for their delayed journey, there is no priority higher than the safest operation of every flight,” Southwest told UWK.
