IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (BRPROUD) — A St. Gabriel man was sentenced to 99 years in prison after being convicted of over 15 counts of child pornography.

According to a release from District Attorney Tony Clayton’s office, 72-year-old Thomas Bourque was found guilty by an Iberville Parish jury in under 10 minutes during a trial in mid-March. Bourque is facing 15 counts of producing pornography involving children under the age of 13 and five counts of possession of pornography of children under the age of 13.

A victim, who at the time of the incident was five years old, testimony stated Bourque touched them and took a photo of their genitals, the release states. The complaint sparked the investigation leading to Bourque’s arrest.

Clayton asked for the “toughest sentences possible on the convictions.”

“This was a disgusting case of abuse of young children. We were very aggressive in our prosecution, and in seeking the maximum sentences,” said Clayton. “The children and their families can have some comfort in knowing he will spend the rest of his life in prison.”

District Judge Alvin Batiste sentenced Bourque to 99 years for the 15 counts of production charges and 40 years for the five counts of possession of child pornography. These sentences will run simultaneously.

“I also want to point out that the detectives of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office did an outstanding job working this case, and getting the evidence and information we needed to present a strong case to the jury,” said Clayton. “They should be commended for a job well done.
