BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Today & Friday: Picture perfect weather will continue over the next couple of days as high pressure remains in control locally. Bright sunshine prevails through Friday, with today’s highs in the upper 70s climbing into the low 80s by Friday.

Nice weather will continue into the weekend, although we’ll start to see the return of some cloud cover. Partly cloudy skies on Saturday will become mostly cloudy by Sunday, but most of the weekend stays dry. Highs will top out in the low to mid 80s on both days, with morning temperatures trending milder through the weekend.

The forecast continues to look less than promising locally and across much of the Deep South for Monday’s solar eclipse. A good deal of cloud cover is expected, with scattered showers and t-storms in our local forecast. Areas in the path of totality to our west and northwest may also have to deal with significant cloud cover.

The pattern overall looks to get more active next week with several rounds of showers and t-storms anticipated. The forecast currently calls for best rain chances on Wednesday, but there is still some uncertainty with regards to timing of best rain chances.

Rain amounts continue to trend higher in the latest outlook from the Weather Prediction Center. Totals are forecast to average 2″-4″ across most of our area through next Thursday morning, with locally higher amounts possible.
