BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Today’s Forecast: Drier and cooler air will filter into the region today in the wake of Tuesday night’s cold front. Highs will top out in the mid 70s under plenty of sunshine. It will be a breezy to windy day, with sustained winds of 10-20 miles per hour, and gusts that could at times top 30 miles per hour.

High pressure will dominate our weather over the next several days, leading to comfortably cool mornings, mild afternoons, and dry conditions. Plenty of sunshine prevails through Friday, with clouds expected to slowly increase through the weekend. The forecast stays mainly dry into the weekend, although a stray shower can’t be ruled out by late Sunday.

The extended outlook points toward a more active pattern returning as we head into next week. Unfortunately, that includes the potential for a significant amount of cloud cover and at least some scattered rains during the solar eclipse on Monday.

There is still some uncertainty on timing of best rain chances next week, but I’ve got scattered rains posted from Monday through Wednesday. As it stands right now, the best chances of rain are expected on Wednesday in association with a cold front.

The 7-day outlook from the Weather Prediction Center shows much of our area receiving 1″-3″ of rain through next Wednesday morning, although totals are forecast to be a bit lower south of I-10.
