Time to shine: This Baton Rouge-shot, micro-budget film gets festival screening next week

"We made it as a scrappy project," said producer Joe Carleton. The debut film of "Beware the Box Folk," a micro-budget film by a production company in Baton Rouge, will be shown at the New Orleans Film Festival. The film, which was shot entirely in Baton roughed up to $125,000, follows a reporter investigating the disappearance of a congressman. The producers, Brendan Pyron, Nathan S. Hall and Michael Prince-Bouton, used a local cast and crew of about 30. The company received a Panavision new filmmaker program grant for a camera package from Panavison, which they are proud to use. Despite only costing about $125k, Carleton believes the final product feels like a project that costs three times the original cost.
