Speed limit on Nicholson Drive near Tigerland lowered after deaths of LSU student, fiance
The speed limit change is in the area where LSU student Leah Fonte and her fiancé Shane Hirstius, both 21-year-olds, were fatally hit while walking in the shoulder by 20-year-old Mia Dawson early Sunday morning. The speed limit on Nicholson Drive near Tigerland has been lowered after an LSU student and her fiance were fatally struck. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development lowered the speed limit from 45 to 35 mph from Bob Pettit Boulevard to Brightside Drive. The department is currently reviewing additional safety measures for the area due to ongoing construction.
