BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A proposed bill suggests that the governor of Louisiana should appoint the chairman of the university boards.

According to SB403, written by Senator Michael “Big Mike” Fesi (R-La), the chairman of the board should be appointed by the governor.

These boards include the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors, the Southern University Board of Supervisors, the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors, the Community and Technical Colleges Board of Supervisors, and the Board of Regents.

Members of the board will elect a vice-chairman and other officers they believe are necessary.

Each officer is to serve for one year or until their successor is elected into office, according to the proposed bill.

If passed, the proposed bill will go into effect on Aug. 1, 2024.
