Building heat later this week, rain chances increase by Sunday
Today’s highs will again top out in the low to mid 90s. No major changes are expected in our weather this week, with a weak front expected to dominate the coverage of showers and t-storms along the coast. High temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s by Friday and Saturday, potentially leading to a potential heat advisory due to high temperatures reaching 105° or above. A dome of high pressure building in from the west will increase heat concerns late in the week, leading to potential for a Heat Advisory on one or both days for parts of the Baton Rouge area. Rain chances will increase by Sunday, with rain totals expected to average 1″-3″ near and north of the interstates through the next few days, with potential totals of 3″-5″+ possible south of I-10.

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Today’s Forecast: No major changes are expected in our weather today as a weak front remains draped along the coast. That boundary should serve as the primary focus for any showers and t-storms, with rain chances for inland locations quite limited.
Today’s highs will again top out in the low to mid 90s.
A dome of high pressure building in from the west will result in increasing heat concerns by late in the week. High temperatures are expected to soar into the upper 90s by Friday and Saturday, with the potential for heat index values to climb to 105° or above. With that in mind, I wouldn’t rule out a Heat Advisory on one or both days for at least parts of our area.
A pattern shift is expected from Sunday into early next week as the high pressure dome quickly pulls to the east. Tropical moisture moving around the clockwise circulation of the high will surge north and northwest towards parts of the Gulf Coast. However, some uncertainty remains on whether the deepest moisture impacts our area or stays a little to the west.
Regardless of the exact location of that moisture plume, rain chances on the order of 50%-60% are expected from Sunday into early next week. That should help to keep highs closer to normal in the upper 80s to low 90s.
The latest outlook from the Weather Prediction Center shows rain totals averaging 1″-3″ near and north of the interstates through next Wednesday morning, with totals of 3″-5″+ possible south of I-10. Again, some uncertainty lingers with regards to placement of heaviest rains, so keep an eye on trends over the next few days.
