A Baton Rouge group is hosting a small business pop-up event this weekend. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Nu Gamma Omega Chapter will host a "Pretty Girl Pop Up Shop" on June 15 at their sorority building in Baton Rouge. The event will support small business owners from restaurants, retail/boutique stores, and more. This is the second year the chapter has hosted this event, with Vice-President Linda Piper stating that last year, families spent over $8-10,000 in supporting small businesses. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Nu Gamma Omega Chapter will host a “Pretty Girl Pop Up Shop” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15 at their sorority building, 1747 Main Street in Baton Rouge.
Vice-President Linda Piper said this is the second year hosting this event. The event will have small business owners from restaurants, retail/boutique stores and more.
“Last year, families came out and shopped and supported these businesses. They spent over $8-10,000 in four hours,” said Piper.
Organizers said the event is part of a nationwide movement to build economic wealth.
“It takes a risk to actually start your own business, so we want to reinforce that the risk was taken for a good cause and make lifestyle changes to support, consistently, the businesses in our own communities,” said Angela Gooden, president of the Nu Gamma Omega Chapter.
