Carmelo Anthony defends LSU's Hailey Van Lith, Angel Reese from ferocious haters

Carmelo Anthony had a lot of love for Kim Mulkey's mentees who are departing the LSU system, Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith. NBA legend Carmelo Anthony defended LSU's Hailey Van Lith, Angel Reese, and Angel Reese from criticism following a series of tough losses to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Both players had been subject to criticism, with many believing they would not have been able to perform well in March Madness without their current coach, Kim Mulkey, if they had not been successful. Despite the criticism, Anthony praised Reese's resilience and dedication to breaking barriers for women's sports. He also praised the importance of her role in helping young girls find themselves and still be women. Despite her departure from LSU, both players are expected to impact another team in college.

After a tough loss to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, Kim Mulkey's squad slowly fell apart. With the exception of Flau'jae Johnson, her core quickly transitioned to other ventures. Angel Reese is headed to the WNBA Draft after a stellar career with LSU. Hailey Van Lith also decided to hit the transfer portal and will no longer be part of the Tigers' squad next season. Both of these stars received a lot of hate in the past few months but a lot of stars in the basketball world have come to their aid. One of them is NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.

LSU would not be where they are at the moment without Coach Kim Mulkey having the personnel to make deep runs in March Madness. This is why Carmela Anthony had to appreciate everyone who has been part of the Tigers system. He started by giving Hailey Van Lith her flowers, via 7 PM in Brooklyn by Wave Sports + Entertainment Original.

“She coming off the screen off the one, two, left off the screen at the hash, like beyond the hash fading. Let's give Hailey her flowers. Hailey, to me, is a dog. She's a dog, dog, dog, dog. And she's about it…She loved the moment. She took the challenge. So I got to take my hat off to her, but she took the challenge of like, Fuck that. You're going to have to cook me tonight,” Carmelo Anthony said.

Iowa hunted the Caitlin Clark to Hailey Van Lith matchup in their Elite Eight game. This threw the star guard's game off by a lot and affected her offensive performance. She ended her LSU stint by only scoring nine points on 30 minutes of playing time. Her time with Kim Mulkey may have ended but she will surely impact another squad in college.

The generational prospect out of LSU gets some love

Angel Reese was still eligible to make a return to LSU for her last year. However, she has decided to move on to the pros and make the 2024 Draft Class very stacked. Carmelo Anthony decided to look back at her career and even applauded the resilience she exhibited despite the criticisms of her very electric personality.

“I love the fact that she walks around with the crown. I love that. You got to remember, they're still young women. Do you get what I'm saying? So they're still trying to find themselves and trying to figure out who they are and try to still be women and have a hold up to a certain standard by still trying to be basketball players and athletic,” the NBA legend declared about Angel Reese.

He even stressed how important the LSU great is in breaking barriers for women's sports.

“I love that. The way that she exudes that confidence in giving young girls the confidence to go out there and be who they are. So that's one thing… The other part of it is her game. She does what she does. She gets it done. So when you see it as a girl, it's a lot different. And then it becomes, Oh, she needs to be quiet. Or she needs to do this? And then now she's making money. She's too much money… People holding you to pro standards in college. It's hard, especially if you are somebody who you voice your opinion, right? You wear your emotions on your sleeve,” he concluded.

Both of these stars may have seen their LSU tenure come to a screeching halt but their legacy will remain until the end of time.
