Baton Rouge resident with one working kidney now facing possibility of needing donor
A Baton Rouge man and U.S. veteran with only one kidney is now facing the possibility of needing a kidney donor. Car Carroll "CB" Annis, a 71-year-old veteran of the U.S. Navy, is facing the need for a new kidney and possibly starting dialysis. Annis has only had one working kidney since 2009 and has been dealing with chronic kidney disease for years. He underwent surgery to remove half of his kidney in 2009 after a previous battle with kidney cancer. Despite his age, Annis's doctor does not believe he qualifies for a transplant due to his age and health issues, which could prevent him from receiving one. The VA is currently checking to see if he qualifies and will add him to their list if so. Annises is also considering peritoneal dialysis, which is done in the stomach area and would eliminate the need to travel to and from the center for dialysis each time.
