Aside from postseason meets like the Southeastern Conference and NCAA championships, the Battle on the Bayou has been one of the biggest competitions of the season for the LSU track and field teams.

It's even bigger this year with the Tigers opting out of the Texas Relays and bringing many of the nation's top teams along with them for a two-day meet this weekend in Bernie Moore Track Stadium.

LSU and 14 schools — including seven from the SEC, two each from the Big 12 and Big Ten, and one each from the ACC and Pac-12 — will line up Friday and Saturday in an early-season outdoor showdown.

The meet begins Friday at 12:30 p.m. with the field events and 5 p.m. on the track. On Saturday, field events are set for a 10 a.m. start with track events at noon.
