Louisiana says LSU broke no SEC rules, asks court to end suit
By Misty Castile Louisiana State University officials and Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill have asked a federal judge to dismiss the Southeastern Conference's lawsuit against Louisiana State University (LSU), arguing that the university complied with conference rules and there is no dispute that warrants court intervention. The SEC has been using new allegations involving LSU's basketball program to sustain the case, which began over two football players. The dispute began when LSU coach Lane Kiffin sought to add former Ole Miss players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, who signed NFL contracts and were cut before the regular season began. The conference argues that leaving the players off the roster does not resolve its allegations about institutional control and compliance with conference guidelines. The defendants argue that the SEC's First Amendment right of expressive association includes the right to end LSU's membership.
