Fire risk from worsening drought prompts emergency burn ban for Iberville Parish
Iberville Parish issued an emergency burn ban Friday, as dry conditions and lack of predictable rainfall continue, parish officials said. An emergency burn ban has been issued for Iberville Parish due to "extremely dry conditions and lack of sufficient rainfall," according to Parish President Chris Craig. The ban prohibits open-air burning of trash, garbage, leaves, branches or debris. It does not apply to prescribed burns by the state Department of Agriculture and Forestry or those conducting prescribed burning as a generally accepted agriculture practice. The order also does not affect small, manufactured fire pits or personal outdoor equipment on private property. The ongoing drought in Louisiana has led to burn bans for several parishes in the Baton Rouge area.
