How will Hyundai fill 1,300 jobs before its $5.8 billion steel plant is operational in 2029?
Major industrial plans along the Mississippi River have long provided jobs for the area, but local leaders say the scale of Hyundai’s investment is unlike anything Donaldsonville has ever seen. Hyundai-POSCO Louisiana Steel has begun recruiting for its $5.8 billion steel mill in Ascension Parish, Louisiana, with the goal of every Hyundai vehicle manufactured in the U.S. manufactured with steel produced in Louisiana. The first 37 positions range from entry-level to leadership roles in engineering, human resources and government affairs. The company plans to build a workforce of 1,300 employees before the facility begins operations in 2029. Once completed, the facility is expected to produce 2.7 million metric tons of steel annually. The average salary for employees at the plant will be around $95,000. Hyundai is using Louisiana Economic Development’s FastStart program to provide customized recruiting to eligible companies building in Louisiana at no cost.
