Trumpeter Riley Mulherkar and vocalists Vuyo Sotashe, Brianna Thomas and Shenel Johns will be joined by up-and-coming players to bring the sounds of jazz singing from the 1920s to life. The song selection list includes classics such as Ma Rainey, “God Bless the Child” by Billie Holiday and more classic jazz and blues hits. Tickets for the performance at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 are available.

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The infamous Jazz at Lincoln Center’s “Songs We Love” music tour is coming to Baton Rouge for a one-night special at the Manship Theatre.

Trumpeter Riley Mulherkar directs vocalists Vuyo Sotashe, Brianna Thomas and Shenel Johns, and the ensemble of up-and-coming players to bring the sounds of jazz singing from the 1920s to life.

Accompanying Mulherkar and the vocalists are Mariel Bildsten, a lead trombonist in Arturo O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Lucas Pino, a much-recorded saxophonist, pianist Mathis Picard, bassist Barry Stephenson and drummer Taurien “TJ” Reddick.

The song selection list includes classics such as “See See Rider” by Ma Rainey, “God Bless the Child” by Billie Holiday and more classic jazz and blues hits.

Tickets for the performance at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21 are available.
